Morgan McDonnell RDN, CD
(she/her)

The work I provide as a dietitian has been a melting pot. I transitioned from general pediatric inpatient nutrition to pediatric oncology, and more recently have done more work with eating disorder and disordered eating. If one thing was consistent throughout these transitions, it’s that our relationship with food and our body is so important, regardless of health status or age. I noticed all babies are born with an intuitive fascination with food. I also noticed babies have a general interest with their bodies. However, various moments in our lives might start to take those positive experiences away. My hope is to provide trauma informed evaluation, guidance, and support around nutrition throughout the lifespan. Whether that is exploring how best to feed a baby, baby’s initial integration of food, or working on damaging behaviors with food and bodies into adulthood.

Going into nutrition as a major at Arizona State University, I was riddled with views on what health and nutrition are “supposed” to look like. This was combination of diet culture, societal pressures and family struggles. What I once thought was truth to the field, quickly got challenged. I realized that nutrition plays a basic role of fuel in our body and we all fuel ourselves uniquely. Foods fuel our bodies in different ways, but at the end of the day, all foods can absolutely be nutritious and enjoyable. I also began to realize that “nourishment” extends beyond the simple metabolic needs a meal provides. Nourishment can be eating foods that improve our life. It can also be connections with others or honoring cravings simply because it’s associated with pleasurable moments in our life.

While working together, we will explore what nutrition looks like at this moment in your life. We will also explore what influences we have on our nutritional status (limiting beliefs, relationships, socioeconomic status, culture, race, gender, trauma etc.) In general, food shouldn’t elicit pain, grief, anxiety, stress or guilt. If nutrition is a struggle for you, or your child, I would love to help!
