Get Started

The easiest way to get started is to request an appointment below. We hold the time for you for about 3 days while you complete the new patient forms, and approve it when you're all done. This process allows us to ensure you are matched with the right clinician and screen for any insurance/payment issues.

The forms come to you via a link in your email so please be on the lookout for it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take my insurance? How much does an appointment cost?
95% of clients with insurance we accept pay $0 for appointments. See which insurances we accept and learn more on our Rates & Insurance page.
Do I need a referral?
  • A referral is typically only required if you have Medicare Part B, a Medicare Advantage plan, or some other HMO plan (ex: Kaiser Core).
  • While most Aetna and Cigna plans do not require a referral, we often do need to receive ICD-10 diagnosis codes from your physician or mental health provider, so please ensure we receive those prior to your visit.
  • Learn more on our Rates & Insurance page.
How do we meet?
We use telehealth to meet with our clients remotely via a HIPAA-compliant video call. When its time for your session, simply click the link we send via email and/or text message. If for any reason it doesn't come through or if you opted out of appointment reminders, you can always find the meeting link by logging in to our client portal. It's easy peasy!

You can join with your computer (recommended), phone or tablet. You don't even need to get out of your pj's! If joining from a mobile device, you will be prompted to download an app.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
  • Complete the intake forms through the patient portal, being sure to upload pictures of your insurance card(s) and a photo ID.
  • Also upload any clinical information you want us to have, such as...
    • reports from your recent doctor's visits
    • pediatric growth charts
    • relevant lab results
    • pictures of your nutrition supplement bottles (front label and the ingredients)
  • Check your insurance coverage for nutrition counseling. Ensure we have any required referrals or diagnosis codes.
  • We recommend using a computer for telehealth appointments. If joining from a mobile device, you will be prompted to download an app so please do that before your session start time.

What can I expect from an initial appointment?
Much of the first session will be spent getting to know you and your health status, eating habits and nutrition needs/concerns. We'll discuss what you hope to achieve through nutrition therapy and together come up with personalized goals, as well as discuss our recommendations for getting you to them. Depending on what you need and how much time we have, we may provide meal planning strategies, food suggestions, nutrition education, supplement and/or lab testing recommendations. Lastly, we'll make a plan for follow-up care.
How often will I see my nutritionist?
Behavioral change takes time! If you are committed to the process and regularly attend appointments, even when it's hard or you feel like you haven't "done the homework", you are likely to get much better results. Most people see us every 1-3 weeks initially, and taper down over time. The frequency of sessions is individual and depends upon your current nutrition status, goals, progress, and accountability needs.
The appointment is about my child... do they have to come?
Insurance billing requires that we meet "face-to-face with the patient". That means that if you want to use insurance to discuss your child's nutrition, your child must be present for at least part of the session. Additionally, we need to physically see and interact with them in order to assess nutrition status and make individualized recommendations.

We are able to meet with parents and caregivers separately for consultation regarding general pediatric and adolescent nutrition and feeding, though this will need to be paid for out-of-pocket.
What is the cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours notice or else a $100 fee will be charged to the card on file. As long as you contact us before the appointment, we will waive the fee if we are able to reschedule you for the same Mon-Fri week and you complete that appointment.

Please let us know ASAP if you can't make your appointment so that we may have the best chance of giving it to someone else. Even 48 hours notice is often not enough time. Thank you!
I'm not in Seattle, can I still work with you?
We are able to see clients throughout Washington state via teleheath and in certain other states, including but not limited to AK, AZ, CA, CO, MI, TX, VA and more. If you are physically located in a state not listed here, please contact us before scheduling to ensure we are able to work with you.
What is the difference between a RDN and other "nutritionists"?
The short answer is that all Registered Dietitians (RD or RDN) are nutritionists but not all nutritionists are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. Virtually anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, which makes it really tough to differentiate those with extensive nutrition education (i.e. RDN and CNS) from those who took a weekend class or read a book.

Other nutritionists (health coaches, holistic nutritionists, nutrition therapy practitioner, etc.) may have little to no formal training in nutrition and their services are not eligible for insurance reimbursement anywhere in the US.
We welcome people of any race, ethnicity, creed, sex, sexuality, gender identity, age, body size, or physical or mental ability.
