Hello and welcome!

I spent my twenties in New York City working in film and television and playing the drums in rock bands. I worked long hours, ate lots of bagels, drank many cocktails, and rarely managed a good night’s sleep. There was always something more to be done and experienced, so I continually pushed myself past healthy boundaries. At thirty years old my body pushed back. Feeling awful and having no idea how to care for yourself is terrifying, but it lead to a long period of healing and self-educating.  I figured that if these things had happened to me, surely this was happening to other people, too. So I decided to become someone that others could come to when they were scared about their health or confused by the mass amounts of information out there. Two years later, I graduated with my Masters in Clinical Nutrition and Integrative Health. From there, I worked at an integrative health practice, where I collaborated with physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and chiropractors to provide total care to our patients.

I truly believe in the tenets of Integrative and Functional Medicine. My favorite definition of Integrative Medicine comes from the University of Arizona:

  • "Integrative Medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapies."
I want to emphasize that the patient and the practitioner work as partners, together discovering the best route of treatment for that particular individual. Functional medicine embraces much of the philosophy of Integrative Medicine, but also employs a systems-oriented medical approach that works to identify and understand the underlying causes of a disease. I am not a physician, so I will not be diagnosing any conditions, but I do look forward to working in tandem with your other health care practitioners to discover the best and most effective care for you!

At my alma mater, the Maryland University of Integrative Health, I studied digestive health with Liz Lipski, author of Digestive Wellness. At my previous position in Pennsylvania, I worked very closely with our practice’s Hormone Specialist. Today, I remain vigilant in continuing my education in these fields so that I may offer the most scientifically-sound and up-to-date treatment options and information to my clients.

That’s my story. What’s yours? I look forward to hearing it sometime soon!
